Colored Print on Art Vellum

Inspired by Byzantine icon Paintings

When I saw a show of traditional Byzantine Icon paintings, I wondered if I could use the techniques with the Africa Myth work I had done. (To see the work, click the *Five Fingers Project* in index.)
But instead of paintings, I would use the process with photographs. So I learned how to apply gold leaf onto images printed on special translucent art vellum. The image to the left is my first effort.

The Universe is Full of Magic

Magic created by a long exposure of an old school house in Central Oregon on a Starry Night. Hand-colored ink-jet print on translucent vellum gilded with gold foil. Since the image is hand-colored, each is a one of a kind.

The Studebaker Face

I found this rusty classic abandoned in a grassy field near Mt. Hood, Oregon.. Hand-tinted Printed on a slightly colored ink-jet print on translucent vellum, hand-tinted, then gilded with gold foil. Since the image is hand-colored, each is unique.

Winter Horsethief Creek

When we had a cabin on the McKenzie River, I would ride my bicycle to this view to watch the trees ballet over the creek. Gold leaf provides a warm glow to the image.

Breaking Storm over the Garden of Eden

As I saw the storm breaking, I rushed to one of my favorite views in Arches National Park.

Birthing Petroglyph

Looking at the ancient petroglyph carved on a huge boulder with dozens of others, I couldn’t help but wonder if the artist was male or female. The gold leaf really makes the image stand out.
